Jonathan Gaines

I started my apprenticeship at the age of 16 where I worked for new housing and domestic private housing. As an apprentice, I gained experience in all aspects of plumbing, gasfitting, central heating, bathroom renovation and servicing.
Between 2000 and 2002 I was employed by a University as a Commercial plumbing and gasfitter. After my stint at the university, I finally decided to open my own business.
At that time I believed that sub-contracting would be the best option for my business.
I continued with this business model and concentrated on upskilling myself.
I first became OFTEC registered which gave me the skills to install diesel boilers. I then got HETAS registration which allowed me to install solid fuel boilers and wetback systems. I then got my part P electrical registration which taught me how to competently do electrical installations in dwellings.
2006 gave me my first taste of New Zealand when I came here for 6 months and worked as a plumber and gasfitter. However, I went back to the UK after that as I still had a business to manage. In the UK my business was thriving but I felt a pull towards New Zealand and decided to move here. But there was still lots to be done so I decided to complete my education by doing my registered and certified exams for Plumbers and Gasfitters. By 2014 I finally felt that it was time to move to New Zealand and started my Business in New Zealand.
